Radio

The Riecken Foundation's radio program in Honduras creates and transmits a weekly radio magazine called “Around the World in 60 Minutes.” The goals of the radio program are to:
  • Promote our libraries
  • Promote reading
  • Facilitate access to information as a civil right
  • Facilitate access to knowledge
  • Stimulate a critical conscience and pluralism
  • Stimulate the observation and questioning of one’s environment

The program's segments include:

Inside Topics: This segment analyzes public politics and features invited guests. In addition to being a part of “Around the World in 60 Minutes”, Inside Topics is independently transmitted through 28 radio stations nationally.

Pascualito: This radio theater segment takes a humorous approach to topics related to rural development. The stories involve scenes similar to those of any small town in Honduras.

In the Inside: The program tackles local issues, and similar to Inside Topics, has a report-style format, while dealing with politics at the municipal level. The radio stations which transmit the program also transmit “In the Inside” several times a week to complement their normal programming.

Fantastic Expeditions: An imaginary voyage to different parts of the world through the radio. The sounds and narration transport the listener to places of special interest.

Texts and Pretexts: A program oriented to promote reading, this segment gives the listeners an outline and description of books in order to attract potential readers and thus increase the use of the resources offered by Riecken libraries.

They are Not Kasakas: A segment that explains and clarifies general topics about human life.

The Question of the Week: The Question of the Week is a trivia program where listeners participate and win prices. In order to play, participants research the answers by consulting resources in Riecken libraries.

Biblioagenda: A segment in which librarians from each community have an opportunity to publicize the libraries’ most important activities for the next week and promote future ones.
