Minas de Oro, Comayagua

Minas de Oro is located in the northeast corner of Comayagua, 150 km northwest of Tegucigalpa. The town has an urban population of 4,300 people with 6,500 more in surrounding villages. Minas de Oro was founded in 1844 and has a long history of gold mining, with one North American miner staying on to form a successful bilingual boarding school for rural youth. The Riecken Foundation initiated the project on December 9, 2003 and the library was inaugurated on July 31, 2004.
