The municipality of Santa Ana was previously known as Cacauterique. It neighbors the Republic of El Salvador and is 171 km southwest from the capital city. Santa Ana has a territorial extension of 197.7 km². This municipality is comprised of 7 villages and 81 smaller communities. The library, Biblioteca Comunitaria Sendero de la Sabiduría y el Descubrimiento, was inaugurated July 19th, 2006.
