Lejamaní is located in the southwest corner of the valley of Comayagua approximately 160 km northwest of Tegucigalpa. The town has a population of 4,200 people whose primary income is from onion, corn and chili farming. The library was built in the center of town next to one of the oldest churches in Honduras. The Riecken Foundation initiated the project on July 22, 2004 and the Biblioteca Pública Lejamani was inaugurated on February 26, 2005.
