El Guante, Francisco Morazán

El Guante, a village outside the town of Cedros, is located in the Talanga Valley 72 km north of Tegucigalpa and has a population of 7,000. El Guante, or "The Glove," received its name because a Spanish colonial ruler was traveling from coast to coast on horseback and while passing through the town her glove fell off. The library was built in the oldest section of the village that was first settled 200 years ago. The Riecken Foundation initiated the project on November 5, 2003 and inaugurated the library on October 4, 2004.
