Santo Tomas de Chiché is a small town in the southern Quiché region. After plummeting to only a few hundred people during the civil war, Chiché?s urban population is now over 2,000. The surrounding villages have over 23,000 inhabitants. Chiché has many deep-rooted cultural traditions such as the dance of the Tzijolay, performed at religious ceremonies. The town has a small library; we initiated a project to construct a new library on December 7, 2004 and the Ventanas Abiertas al Futuro (Open Windows to the Future) library was inaugurated on June 3, 2005.
