Susan Riecken and Allen Andersson not only believe in the power of social entrepreneurship, they have dedicated their wealth and their efforts to it. They founded the Riecken Foundation in 2000 to bring 21st century possibilities to isolated communities in Central America. “At the Riecken Foundation, our main work is to change the consciousness of people, to create a new sense that there is great opportunity in the world, a sense that there are more possibilities,” says Andersson. “Our libraries open a window on a world beyond the village boundaries. They are centers of excitement and discovery and community power.” The couple’s vision is a non-profit that is “fast, flexible and fearless,” opening new paths to prosperity and democracy in Central America.
